The fight against cancer in pets continues with another generous donation to the Zeus Varis Fund at Frankie’s Friends of $81,640 from Dr. Agnes Varis
Families don’t have to make the agonizing choice to put their pet to sleep, because of the high cost of cancer treatment, thanks to Dr. Agnes Varis’ generous contribution of $81,640 to Frankie’s Friends charitable pet foundation.
Families who cannot afford the full cost of treatment for diagnosed cancer for their four-legged family members are routinely helped with grants from the Zeus Varis Fund at NYC Veterinary Specialists. Additionally, for pets that qualify, the treating veterinarian and the hospital also donate to assist with the cost of care.
Over 30 pets to date, have received treatment at heavily discounted rates since the fund was established in 2009. To be eligible, cats and dogs must be referred by their family’s veterinary.
Zeus, a domestic long-hair cat, and his sister, Kallee, a calico, were adopted in 1995 as kittens by Dr. Agnes Varis and her late husband, Karl Leichtman. After being diagnosed with lymphoma in early 2009, Zeus enjoyed a high-quality of life under the care of Dr. Timothy Rocha and the NYC Veterinary Specialists oncology team until he died in June 2009.
