I was thrilled to learn that such a charity exists - as an animal lover whose primary source of income has come from positions in animal conservation (as well as a part time job with a dog daycare/rescue) I agree that charities for pets with loving families are extremely underrepresented and greatly needed. I hadn't noticed this void until I found myself in the position of needing one. I wish that I was writing you to make a donation, but unfortunately I am on the other side today and am writing to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping to give my dog the treatment he deserves. I rescued my lab mix, Murphy, when he was one and I was 21. At the time I was living in Chicago a thousand miles away from my friends and family. Murphy quickly became my family. We moved to NYC two years ago, and I'm currently in the 2nd year of a PhD program. I'm financially limited as at 25 year old graduate student, but I've been able to afford to live off of this income without assistance. Murphy has never suffered from this - he attended "doggy daycare" for free because I worked at one, has always received the shots and care he needed, and is taken on long walks and to the neighborhood dog run every day in New York. I knew when I adopted Murphy that I could give him a loving home and afford standard veterinary care. But I never expected Murphy, who has always been so healthy and active, to suddenly be diagnosed with lymphoma at age 5 while I am still in school and without savings. I was devastated to learn that I do not have the means to pay for cancer treatment for him.

My dream would be to give Murphy the chance to spend the summer healthy and happy. It's his favorite time of year and the dog beach is his favorite place in the world. This past summer I had knee surgery and Murphy was very patient with me. I was on crutches and we weren't able to do all of our favorite summer activities. It would mean so much if I was able to thank him for it by spending this coming summer together.

Thank you so much for helping me towards fulfilling this goal - You are giving Murphy a chance at life, and giving us both many happy memories together. This is the nicest gift anyone has ever given me and I could never thank you enough. I'm sure that there are thousands of stories like mine. Thank you for all that you do to give pets and their families a chance at life and the care they deserve.
