I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Paige Evans & the staff at BluePearl for their kindness and compassion and especially to Frankie’s Friends for the financial help they provided when Polo was in need of emergency surgery.
One evening, within a matter of hours, Polo went from being his normal playful self to acting very strangely. He couldn’t get comfortable and he appeared to be in pain. He wouldn’t open his eyes and he didn’t want to eat or drink.
I couldn’t let him spend the entire night this way, so in the wee hours of the morning I rushed him into the emergency clinic. I was told that the pressure in his eye was very high & he needed to see an ophthalmologist right away.
The next morning I took Polo to see Dr. Evans at BluePearl. She was very gentle, as she examined Polo. She told me that he has glaucoma and confirmed that the pressure in his eye was extremely high and the lens had moved. Polo had lost vision in his left eye. She also said that he was in severe pain.
Naturally I was very upset. But she patiently explained everything in detail and we discussed the options. The problem I was facing was that I couldn’t afford to pay for the necessary surgery. That’s when they told me about funds that are available through Frankie’s Friends. I had never heard of Frankie’s Friends but was willing to look into every available option. So we applied. Much to my relief, they agreed to help. As a matter of fact they paid most of the bill.
Polo had his eye removed that day. He is still in the recovery stage but he is adjusting nicely. He is even playing with his toys again.
When we returned for his follow up visit, he happily went into the office. He didn’t show any signs of stress.
Dr. Evans and the staff at BluePearl truly care about their patients. And Frankie’s Friends was a godsend. I now know to whom I will be making donations in the future. I know firsthand that the money does go to helping animals and their families.
