Benny was treated for GDV at BluePearl in Overland Park, KS. This is a note from his family.

Dear Frankie’s Friends,

It is difficult to put into words the gratitude which I feel for the assistance we received when Benny, our 3-year-old Saint Bernard was suddenly struck with GDV and needed thousands of dollars’ worth of surgery that we didn’t have.

With finite resources and an uncertain outcome, we were financially unable to proceed with his life-saving surgery and had made the agonizing decision to proceed with euthanasia.

We and our children were distraught. It was heartbreaking to know he was treatable, but it was beyond our reach. I was especially concerned for our oldest child. Benny has been, “her boy,” since his arrival into our home. She suffers from ODD and ADD and has struggled with friendships. He has been her most trusted and constant friend. He has helped her to learn to focus her attention on others and develop compassion. I worried his loss would be devastating to her and her progress.

Dr. Blouin also felt the injustice of not giving him a change and sought out approval for Frankie’s Friends Hope Fund. His approval literally saved his life.

Today he is doing well. He continues to provide emotional support. His recovery process only strengthened their bond as she slept beside him as he healed.

I will be forever grateful for the kindness and generosity our family received. I had hoped to include some pictures where Benny was appearing lively. He is now, as he has always been, more of a follow you around the house and lie beside you kind of guy, but his extreme loyalty is one of the things I love best about him.
