Frankie’s Friends JLACF Fund is helping Nicey and Ninja receive care and treatment; Nicey for high grade lymphoma necessitating chemotherapy treatments, and Ninja has osteosarcoma that also requires chemotherapy. This is a note from their family.
Dear Generous Donors,
First off, Id like to say thank you for even giving needy families like us, the chance to receive financial help especially when our beloved pups are diagnosed with cancer. We are very fortunate to have our pups. They have given us endless joy and companionship that no one else can provide. They have been with us through heartache, pain, joy and sorrow. My pups Nicey and Ninja show us unconditional love, and never ask anything in return. Hence, we did not think twice to move with family back to the US in order for Nicey to get treatment as there was no available help in the islands. It was very tough, leaving the island most especially since before leaving for the states, our Rottweiler Angel passed away unexpectedly. It was beyond heartbreaking, we could not even grieve for our baby angel because Nicey's first oncology appointment was in 4 days, and we had to travel to Miami from Anguilla and decided it was too risky for Nicey to travel that far to our final destination in Chicago. So we drove from Miami to Chicago to make sure he gets pee breaks and get to eat and stretch his legs and be comfortable since it is his first time arriving in the US. After Nicey's first appointment in Wisconsin, where he gets his chemo treatments, 12 hours later we rushed him to the ER in Wisconsin since he had a fever of 105, it was one of the most difficult time ever, of not knowing. Fortunately his fever resolved and he’s been doing great ever since. However during one of his rechecks in November, his brother Ninja came during his appointment and the oncologist became worried about a lump on Ninja's shoulder, after days of tests, scans etc, it was so devastating to hear that Ninja had been diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
We are beyond heartbroken to hear both our beloved pups are battling cancer. There were sleepless nights, since we do not know where to get the money in order to provide them the medical care they need. Days where we just hold on to our pups and cry until we fell asleep. But we mustered every single positive fiber in our bodies, prayed desperately and kept our faith going, no matter how hard it was. We are beyond dedicated to our pups and their needs. We have sold our car and kept one in order to transport them to the clinic for their treatments or whatever they need. Even then we could not keep up with the bills since we have 2 pups going thru chemo and there are unforeseen visits to the ER.
Whenever we go to their oncology clinic at VCA, we see other worried pet owners and try to love on their pets. It is so heartbreaking to see that we are not the only ones. But since we have been on this road longer than most of them, we try to offer them paws of comfort. We try to tell them that they are doing the very best they can just by treating their pets with chemotherapy. Even the smallest advice of what to give their picky pets when they don’t want to eat after their chemo, makes a difference.
We feel so fortunate that we still have our pups with us despite their diagnoses. They are still happy, playful, bouncy and naughty. Hence, we are asking for your generosity and kindness in helping us continue to provide Nicey and Ninja the care they deserve. We are extremely thankful we get to spend precious time with them when we wake up in the morning, when we take them to go for walks, when they get excited for car rides, when we see their tails wagging for food and treats and most importantly, when we get to cuddle with them and tell them how much we love them and that we will do whatever it takes to give them the best quality of life they deserve.
