Frankie’s Friends helped Lucky receive lifesaving surgery for peritoneal-pericardial diaphragmatic hernia repair. Lucky’s right and left liver lobes and gallbladder were herniated through his diaphragm and pushing against the sac around his heart. This is a note from Lucky’s family.

I’ve had quite a few cats growing up and will be 50 years old next. I have loved all my animals, but I’ve never had a cat like Lucky, my daughter always says he is my spirit animal. He actually puts his paws around my neck and gives Eskimo kisses, he is very affectionate. I love him so much, if I could have him registered as a support animal I would. I suffer from anxiety and have been diagnosed with major depression disorder. Lucky really seems to help me out and I’m just so thankful and grateful that God has placed Lucky in my life. I got him from a friend who had found him in her trailer park. He was very sick and dehydrated. I ended up taking him to the vet the following day because I was afraid he wouldn’t make it. The veterinarian gave him to different medications and after two weeks of really bad diarrhea he started getting better and then she did an X-ray on his follow up visit. She said he had an enlarged heart and kidney. After taking him to MU after her referral that’s when I found out it was PPDH and he needs surgery. I’m so thankful he doesn’t have an enlarged heart because he had a prognosis of only living 9 months to a year old. Lucky has a good prognosis and since he is still young the veterinarian said he could live a full life with the surgery. I’ve been praying that God will provide a way for Lucky to get the surgery. I just want y’all to know that I am so grateful for any amount of assistance you are providing. He’s my baby and I can’t imagine life without him. Thank you,
— Lucky's Family
