Frankie’s Friends Hope Fund helped Sushi receive the lifesaving treatment she needed for a lily ingestion at BluePearl in Clearwater FL. This is a note from Sushi’s family.

I cannot thank you guys enough!!

Let me set the scene. Sushi’s mom and dad come home from work on Valentine’s day. Dad brings home a lovely bouquet and Mom thinks they’re the most beautiful flowers she’s gotten in a moment. They run to the store.

That’s where things go wrong. There was a single lily stem in the bouquet and when we ran to the store to pick up a nice dinner to prepare for the loving holiday, we returned to find a bit of pollen on her tiny black cheeks and go right into panic mode. We called three emergency vets, both poison control numbers. He is worried for the heartbreak that comes with losing a fur baby. I’m trying to assess the problem. Both are feeling remorse for not being more careful.

We arrive at BluePearl emergency vet and they immediately get her checked out. While we’re waiting we’re thinking of the cost. Sushi’s life is worth more than the money we have in our pockets. The vet and her techs come and offer us so many options and we can’t even afford one. I start to unravel. He is trying to think of different options even though we really don’t have any.

Sushi needed the full works. Blood panels, 48 hour iv drip to flush her kidneys out, things I can’t even remember. Then the love of complete strangers wraps our little family in a tight embrace.

Frankie’s Friends covered the full treatment for us. We can’t even begin to describe what it means to us. Sushi is our little spunky cat. She brings excitement and joy into our lives everyday. She’s a very unique little cat, and she’s incredibly smart and playful. And she’s just a little over a year old. Frankie’s Friends covered the entire treatment when we were worried about just being able to afford the visit, let alone the entire 48 hours. The weight of the world fell off of our shoulders. When humanity takes care of one another despite the way the world is around us, that’s where the magic is. The love of pets, the love humans have for one another, and the kindness and care that was taken in creating Frankie’s Friends is the love that really showed itself to us on Valentine’s Day. We are so thankful, and once things get better we will be doing everything we can to pay it forward through Frankie’s Friends so that another little family can take their baby home happy and healthy, because that’s the gift they gave to us.

Thank you to the generous donators of Frankie’s Friends. Even after our mistake, you saved our little Sushi girl. We can’t thank you enough. Now we will hold her life more dearly than ever, and be much less careless about what we bring into our home.

Say no to lilies!! And God bless you all. We love you Frankie’s Friends.
