Frankie’s Friends National Fund helped Bella receive emergency surgery for an eye enucleation. This is a note from Bella’s family.

Approving funding for Bella’s enucleation, means that I get to spend more time with my best girl as a happy senior old lady. I’m not ready to have the room at night be silent from her absence of snoring, and I don’t think she’s ready to leave her family at this time either. She may be old, but she absolutely still has some pep in her step. She still follows me around, barks at me for food anytime I am in the kitchen, does a couple tricks for treats (paw, high five, tap, & lay down when her joints are feeling good), and competes (and wins) for the yummiest bones in the house with my other big dog Rumney, who adores her and loves playing with her. Bella will graciously play for a couple of minutes before resorting back to the safety of my side or lap. She is a strong independent girl that loves food, her people, sleeping, and sunbathing. I got Bella when I was just 19 and she quickly turned into my emotional support girl that I didn’t know I needed.

Funding her surgery means I no longer have to consider euthanasia for Bella to keep her comfortable. The medication she is on currently is keeping her feeling okay- but at a steep cost- something I as a single mom, can’t afford to keep up with monthly. I don’t want her to lose her eye, but I also can’t afford her to keep it, so unfortunately euthanasia is very much on the table for this sweet, spunky, happy, food motivated, loud snoring girl.

I don’t know if I would even be able to forgive myself for choosing euthanasia before I feel like she’s ready. I never in a million years thought that I would be in this situation that I find myself in. My family and I are forever grateful to be able to spend more time with Bella earth side before she crosses the rainbow bridge.

Thank you so much!“
