Frankie’s Friends helped Mater receive lifesaving surgery for a foreign body. This is a note from Mater’s family.

Mater came to us as a rescue during a time of need. He rescued us, mainly my son just as much as we rescued him. My son has Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, and Tourette’s. He was born with drugs in his system and many health problems. I brought him into my home (as a single mom) at 2.5 months, then years later adopted him with his 3 half siblings. The week before adoption we lost our Golden Retriever to cancer, and the day after our adoption, we moved from Florida to NC to make a fresh start. Waiting for us in NC was my niece, with Mater. Mater instantly became my son’s and my son became Mater’s. These two have been constant companions helping each other work through past trauma. My son even started his own business at 8 years old making “Mater-tots” which are healthy dog treats. He sells them at vendor fairs in our area and donates part of his proceeds to local causes- including a program that helps dogs who have cleft palate. We now find ourselves in need of help saving our beloved family member, Mater. I’m asked to write in my own words what it would mean to receive assistance... in reality there are no words. This past month my youngest adopted son was in the hospital and sick for over three weeks, which caused me to have to take unpaid leave. Right now my other son, Mater’s best buddy has pneumonia. They even share sick days I suppose, because the day after I took Mater to the emergency room I was taking my son to one. The only way I can cover this surgery that Mater needs would be to receive financial assistance, because due to my recent leave from work, I will not be able to pay this month’s bills. Thankfully, I will only be a month behind because I am very good at keeping up with my bills, however as a special ed teacher, I do not make enough to save for anything other than summer pay. Helping us pay for Mater’s surgery not only saves his life, but it saves us. Thank you for considering.
