Frankie’s Friends Hope Fund helped Axle receive the emergency TPLO surgery he needed for a cruciate ligament rupture at BluePearl in Kirkland, WA. This is a note from Axle’s family.

I am happy to say that Axle is doing well and is on the mend. I can absolutely say that Axle has benefited from the generosity of the donors of Frankie’s Friends, as well as Dr. Engen himself. Without the generosity of the foundation this surgery would not have happened. Axle is scheduled for surgery on his other knee in December so I am doing all that I can to follow all of the post-op instructions so he will be ready, though at times it is a challenge as I have two of Axle’s litter-mate sisters (Ginger & CoCo), and all three are very high energy pups. A little background on how I ended up with my three. My neighbor had taken in their mother from someone that could not keep her. As spring came in and she began to shed her winter fluff, it became apparent that she was very pregnant, and had a litter of 8 healthy pups. At about 5 weeks I got to see the litter and of course fell in love and made claim to one, but ended up with two! Every time that I went across the street to visit my new girls, Axle (I named him then) would come out of the group and sit at my feet. After I took my girls home and walked them past the house, he would climb out of the pen and come after me. I always felt guilty for not taking him home, but I already had the two and couldn’t justify a third, two was pushing it. About 12 months later I learned that the person that had taken Axle had surrendered him to a shelter. It took me 7 weeks but I found him, and went and got him. Unfortunately somewhere during the 12 months before I adopted him he was mistreated, and I believe that that is where he sustained the one knee injury, and the other was injured as part of compensating for the original knee injury. Some years back I left work and ended up on disability due to a work related incident that left me with PTSD. The best decision I have made for myself since has been bringing dogs back into my life, so I want to express my gratitude for the generosity that Axle and I have been shown, and look forward to being able to give back in the future so that someone else may also benefit from the generosity.
