Frankie’s Friends National Funds helped Serafina receive lifesaving surgery for a leg amputation due to an osteosarcoma on her left scapula. This is a note from Serafina’s family. “Serafina is so special to our family. Not a day goes by that she doesn’t bring love and joy to each of us in her own way. She is 11 years old. She is sweet, playful and clever, and strong willed. She always has something to say and we all love listening to her. Most of the time I understand exactly what she is trying to tell me. We adopted her and her brother from a shelter. We were told that she and her brother and sister were found wandering down a sidewalk on a busy road in an industrial area. They were still too young to be weaned but their mother was nowhere to be found. She was clearly the runt of the litter. When we first met them, she walked right to my lap and stayed there and stared up at me for a long time. I’ll never forget her steady gaze and questioning expression. When my kids were 3 and 6, their dad and I divorced. I adopted these kittens to help them through this rough time. One for each of them to love and cuddle with. Each cat claimed a kid and as slept in their kid’s bed every night since. Serafina chose my son Zach. He is now 18 years old. Through his childhood, he struggled with several learning and behavioral disabilities but Sera never shied away from his moods and was always a constant friend and comfort to him when he had rough days. She curls around his pillow and stays with him all night. But, I am her secret favorite and during the day, when he is at school, she is with me almost constantly. She and I have an unspoken bond and she knows I love her unconditionally (she can be really sassy and grumpy lol), but she knows I treasure and adore her and will do anything to make each day better for her.Thank you so much for my grant to help cover some of her surgical costs and amputation. I lost my job in January so it has been very difficult to come up with funds to take Sera to the vet. I have maxed out my credit cards to pay for her initial tests and diagnoses and do not have any way to pay for the surgery. I am hopeful that we will find a way to keep Serafina with us so that she can continue to have a long and happy life to a ripe old age. She has given so much to our family and I promised her that I would do everything I can for her.” — Serafina's family Comment
