Frankie’s Friends National Fund helped Athena with emergency surgery to repair a complete fracture to the condyle lateral to the humerus. This is a note from Athena’s family.

Athena was left in the care of a friend while I took a trip to Miami, FL. On March 4th I got a call while I was away that the caretaker tripped and fell on top of her. I was scheduled to come home the 15th but came home the 8th. When I got home Athena was very happy and was very excited it didn’t seem to me her injury was so serious. As the days went on I noticed she wasn’t improving and she still wasn’t putting weight on her leg as she should so I took her in to the hospital. I bought Athena from the next town over Buffalo. When I saw her and she saw me it was love at first sight. She immediately took to the name and followed me throughout the house. The connection was undeniable and I wasn’t letting her go. My kids who are 14 and 4 live with their father for the past two years and Athena has really helped me not having them full time. She is my last daughter/kid. I recently was sick I couldn’t eat for 10 days with an inflammation of the sac around my heart or acute pericarditis. They say if Athena’s surgery isn’t performed we will have to amputate her leg and I know she can make it if we can repair it. For whoever is reading this, I just want to say thank you for even taking the time to read this and considering my sweet girl for a chance. Pits get a bad rep but Athena is sweet with kids, smaller dogs, and she’s definitely my shadow. I love her very much and I just want her to know I got her like she had me.
